A neat night spoiled
Jun. 3rd, 2005 01:25 amToday was 'preunion', when only a small fraction of the hordes due to descend upon Swarthmore had arrived but we didn't let that slow us down. There was a good-sized (16 people) expedition to Peking which went well and is probably the model for future years, even if there were only three out-of-towners here early enough for it.
After Peking there was a general congregating in Nupont commons, which I was only at for 15 minutes before I decided to head off with Chris, Jed, and Jess to Renato's. Not for the food, but to have a small-group conversation. Which ended up lasting two hours plus, capped off with a Crumwalk. Which was my downfall. At the walk last week we had gotten to the spot under the trestle and decided to backtrack into the meadow to find the main northward trail from there, because doing so from our current position would require a short but tricky ascent up a steep and rocky path under the trestle. So since I thought my eyes were dark-adapted and it was bright enough, tonight I tried to find that path myself while the others were looking at the waterfall. And didn't see a big hole and tumbled to the ground, hurting my right (weak) ankle. I've got ice on it now, and I was able to walk fine with only a little swelling after 20 minutes of walking home, so I'm hoping hecklikely that I'll be able to walk okay tomorrow and won't just have put a serious kink into my plans for the reunion and the North Carolina trip immediately after. Wish me luck....
