And here's my Do-It-Yourself version for anyone else with opinions and Photoshop.

Did you post the DIY version on the XKCD comic thread?

Nah, cause the strip is two days old already, and I'd just be posting to comment number three-hundred-something. I figure nobody reads that far down in the comments. Tell me if you know otherwise, I'd be willing to do it...

Well, I don't have photoshop, but I do have MS Paint...

I also have opinions.

I don't agree, but find your opinion on bananas hilarious! Like the notation.

My opinion on bananas is very important to me, and is the primary reason I undertook this exercise. Also because I felt that everyone (except maybe [livejournal.com profile] tirerim... maybe...) was unfairly maligning tomatoes.

The last time I had to touch a banana, around age 8, I was unsuccessful in suppressing my gag reflex--and I was just supposed to be feeding the 2nd-grade-class turtle, not eating it myself! College was problematic for me, because of how frequently some of my closest friends threw banana peels at everyone--where "everyone" was typically me--at SWILtable. I almost got killed by [livejournal.com profile] aryky--crushed between the table and the wall of Sharples--over a banana peel I may or may not have been hiding from her. Also, a banana ate my sister three years ago.

Define the distance from fruit A to fruit B to be sqrt([tastiness(A)-tastiness(B)]^2+[easiness(A)-easiness(B)]^2).
Let X be the locus of all fruits whose distances from a red apple and an orange sum to a constant C.
Then X is a Fruity Ellipse
