It's 79 degrees, sunny, and low humidity outside. I know this because Wunderground tells me, and because I feel it at my window. But I can't go out and enjoy it because, for a second straight day, I'm sitting waiting for a truck from USAirways baggage services to come and return my suitcase to me. I flew back from Boston on Tuesday, and my luggage wasn't there when I arrived. Since then I've heard a half-dozen different explanations: that it's on it's way, that they don't know where it is, that they can't find Greylock, that they realized they were bringing me the wrong suitcase, that it's already been delivered to me...

I'm ready to scream, and what I would scream is "USAirways sucks". Exacerbating the frustration, they also lost my luggage on the flight *up* to Boston last week, though that time I had it back in a few hours. I've never had a baggage problem before, in maybe a dozen flights with them, and I have lots of frequent flier miles with them so I'm not switching to a new airline until I get enough miles for another free flight and take it... but I'm sure going to try avoiding checking my luggage from now on. Time to buy some less-than-three-ounce containers of toiletries.

Since that went into effect, I haven't traveled with any liquids or gels, so I can carry on for most flights. I just use what's at the place I'm staying.

Helps that I just use a bar of soap on my head instead of shampoo.

I hate flying.

I can usually avoid checking bags, which saves a lot of time and potential hassle. I've only had a bag lost once; we picked it up in the Philly airport. As in, there was a little roped off section of bags. We identified ours, ducked under the ropes, and repossessed it. Being basically honest individuals, we opted not to make off with anyone else's bag, or complain to the airline that we'd never received ours.

Sorry about the baggage troubles. I also had my bag lost by US Airways once while returning from a physics conference in Savannah, Georgia. Fortunately they dropped it off at Ben West the next day.

Geez!! TWO days to find and return a bag that didn't even go across country??? Unbelievable. I hope you write them a nasty letter--you might get something for your trouble.

Blech. More than two days to get you your suitcase is pretty poor performance, particularly given that we're not talking about the whole northeast being shut down due to snowstorms or anything like that. So did they finally come through with the suitcase? I hope so!

It seems as if a lot of people are having this problem lately.... Maybe baggage-handling across the country is just going to hell. This summer, five new ETAs (of seventy) had their bags lost en route to Incheon--compared to ZERO for the past several years. (Of course, their bags were lost AFTER I told them they had nothing to worry about; in my extensive flying experience, I've only had bags lost twice, and neither time was en route to Korea.)
