What's the techno version of "I walked into a door and got a black eye"? How about, "my laptop did"?
Last night I managed to bang the edge of my (closed) laptop into the handle of the hall closet's folding door. It cracked the screen, and now the lower-right quarter of it is blank-with-a-few-vertical-stripes, and above that is a roughly eye-shaped black patch.

So I think it's time for the Apple Store once more, only this time I'll be picking up the tab, because it's the fault of my stupidity....

Ouch! That's unfortunate.

Is that fixable? I've got a similar problem on my older laptop. I gave up on it due to various mechanical problems and it being slow as well as the screen issue, but if it's not too much to repair it's still plenty usable.

Fixable, but *very* expensive. I'm going to the Apple Store for a quote tomorrow, but I'm anticipating around $600-$750. Almost enough to make me buy a new one, but it's only seven months old, and still has 2/12 years of warranty left (though that's protection against future things going wrong, not this which was My Own Damn Fault).

Ah, that's what it was, I think the Apple Care folks told me to buy a new one rather than have mine repaised because the costs would be so high.
